SEO for Plastic Surgeons: What to Do Before You Hire Anyone

Z. AhmedFounder, Your Growth System9 min read

Key Takeaways

  • Every result on page one for this search is an agency selling SEO. None of them tells you what to do first, so this post does.
  • Google says local results are ranked on three things: relevance, distance and prominence. Two of those you can work on this week for free.
  • Most agencies on page one publish no price at all. One that does, Rosemont Media, lists 1,000 dollars to 3,000 dollars a month.
  • Hire someone when the basic work is done and you still cannot keep up with content and reviews, not before. You will also know what you are buying.

We searched seo for plastic surgeons on 29 July 2026. Every result on the first page was a company selling that service. Agencies are simply the ones with the time and the budget to write about it. But it leaves you with one problem: nobody is telling you what to actually do. You get pitches, not steps.

So here are the steps. This is the work a practice can do itself, in order, with no contract and no retainer. At the end there is an honest note about when hiring someone is worth the money, because sometimes it is.

What Google is actually ranking

Google ranks local results on relevance, distance and prominence, and it says so in its own help pages. One of those three is fixed: your building does not move. The other two are yours to work on this week, for free, and everything below is one of them. If you want that model pulled apart in full, it is in our post on local search for dental practices.

Start with your Google Business Profile, not your website

Your Google Business Profile is the first thing to fix, and most practices treat it as an afterthought. It is the box that shows up with your name, hours, photos and reviews when someone searches. For a local search it often gets seen before your website does. A patient can read your reviews, see your hours and call you without ever visiting your site.

Do these, in this order:

  1. 1.Claim the profile if you have not. If a former staff member owns it, start the recovery process now, because it takes days.
  2. 2.Set the primary category to the one that matches what you want to be found for. Add secondary categories for the other procedures you really offer.
  3. 3.Fill in every field. Hours, holiday hours, phone, website, appointment link, description, service list. Empty fields are relevance you are leaving on the table.
  4. 4.Add real photos of your actual practice, your team and your waiting room. Not stock images. Patients are deciding whether this place feels safe.
  5. 5.List your procedures as services, using the words patients use, not the clinical terms.

This is an afternoon of work. It is also the step most likely to pay off first, because it feeds relevance directly and it is the surface the patient sees first.

Reviews are the prominence lever you control

Reviews are the part of prominence you can actually move, because Google names review count as one of the things that shapes it. Links to your site matter too, but you cannot make other websites link to you this month. You can ask a happy patient for a review today.

The honest problem in this field is that many patients do not want their name attached to a cosmetic procedure. That is real and you should respect it. It also means a smaller share of your happy patients will post publicly than at a dental office down the street, so do not measure yourself against one. Ask anyway, ask everyone, and accept that some will say no. Ask in person at the last visit, then follow up once in writing. Never offer anything in exchange for a review.

Write the pages only you can write

The pages that win are the ones a stranger could not have written for you. Every practice site has a page called Rhinoplasty that says roughly the same thing. There is no reason for Google, or a patient, to prefer yours.

What makes a page yours is the specific stuff: what your consultation is actually like, what you tell people who are not good candidates, what recovery looks like in week one and week three, what you charge and what that includes, and the questions you get asked so often you could answer them in your sleep. Write those answers down. That is the page.

One page done properly beats ten thin ones. Pick your three biggest procedures and write those three well before you write anything else.

Online, clear beats good every time.

What the market charges, so nobody can anchor you

Most of the agencies ranking for this term publish no price at all, which makes it hard to know if a quote is fair. We checked the pages ranking on page one in July 2026. Dagmar Marketing's plastic surgery SEO guide names no figure and asks you to book a call. Rosemont Media does publish one. Its page for plastic surgeons says monthly SEO services typically range from 1,000 dollars to 3,000 dollars.

Treat that as a rough market marker and nothing more. It is one company's published range, not an industry average, and a practice in Manhattan is not buying the same thing as a practice in a small city. But it is a real published number from a real agency, and now you have it before anyone quotes you.

When hiring someone actually makes sense

Hire when the basics above are done and the bottleneck is time, not knowledge. That is the honest line. If your profile is half empty and your service pages are stock text, an agency's first three months will be spent doing the work in this post, and you will pay a retainer for it.

Once the foundation is in place, the work that follows is relentless and boring: new pages, refreshed pages, review requests every single week, watching what competitors publish. That is the part practices stop doing, and that is the part worth paying for. When you do go looking, ask what they will publish in month one, ask who writes it, and ask what happens to the pages if you leave.

The order, in one list

  1. 1.Claim and completely fill your Google Business Profile. One afternoon.
  2. 2.Set up a way to ask every patient for a review, and use it every week.
  3. 3.Write your three biggest procedure pages properly, in your own words.
  4. 4.Add the specific questions patients ask you, with your real answers.
  5. 5.Only then, if time is the problem, go and buy help. You now know what you are buying.

What we actually do, and what we do not

We are not a plastic surgery agency and we do not claim any surgeon clients. What we build is a system that does the boring, repeating part for owners who do not have a marketing team. The Digital Positioning Playbook scans your homepage and gives you the ordered plan for your own practice, in an afternoon. Growth Autopilot keeps the weekly work moving, drafting pages and review requests. You approve each piece, then post or send it yourself.

If you would rather just see where you stand first, the free check asks nine plain questions and scores your answers. It costs nothing and it does not put you on a call.

The bottom line

The reason page one is all agencies is that the basic work is tedious, and nobody makes money telling you to do it yourself. Claim your profile. Ask for reviews every week. Write the three pages only you can write. Do that first, and every quote you get afterwards will be for work that is actually worth paying for.

See where your practice stands before you spend a dollar on marketing.
